Do captures, edit images, and more
Screen-capture utilities abound on the Internet, but every once and a while one makes us really take notice. Such a program is FullShot99. It comes in two flavors, both of which can be evaluated here. The Standard Edition lets you perform six types of captures: full-screen capture, window capture, region capture, title and menu capture, freehand capture, and mouse-pointer capture. The Professional Edition adds two more capture modes: button capture and command-bar capture. Both versions let you grab images by using onscreen snapshot buttons (which appear as part of the active window's title bar, along with a handy digital clock) or hotkeys. A camera sound effect is played when the capture takes place. You can capture images in a variety of color depths and resolutions and print them in any size, complete with text annotations in multiple formats, a header and/or footer, and multiple alignments and orientations. You can even print multiple images on one page. Besides performing screen-capture functions, FullShot99 works great as an image viewer and editor. It can open, import, save, and export graphics in .bmp, .clp, .cur, .dib, .gif, .ico, .jpg, .pcx, .png, .rle, .tif, and .wpg formats. Editing tools let you add frames, resize, flip, rotate, crop, reduce colors, and more. Images can be annotated as well. Along with the Explorer-like FullShot99 application, utilities for batch conversion of files and scanning your drive(s) for graphics are included in the Professional Edition. You can try both versions for free for 30 days. Reviewed on Jul 22 1998.
